Aroya Cruises will begin operations on 25 new winter routes from Galataport Istanbul in order to help Istanbul grow its cruise tourism by connecting Turkey to Greece and Egypt. Aroya Cruises has set a goal to help Istanbul achieve its target of becoming a leading cruise port in the Mediterranean by offering winter routes from October 2026 to April 2027. Istanbul Cruise Port is hoping to increase international travel, increase cargo volume through the port, and enhance the tourism industry of Turkey in the off-season.

The new winter programme is expected to deliver substantial growth in cruise activity at Galataport Istanbul. The port is forecast to record a 143% increase in cruise departures and an 188% rise in passenger numbers compared with the previous year. The expansion is targeting approximately 150,000 cruise passengers, highlighting the growing demand for Istanbul as a strategic embarkation point for international travellers.

The winter voyages will operate between October 10, 2026, and April 24, 2027, offering guests the opportunity to discover a range of Mediterranean destinations. The itineraries will connect Istanbul with popular Turkish coastal locations, including Bodrum, Marmaris and Kuşadası, while also extending routes to Alexandria in Egypt.

By introducing additional winter departures, Aroya Cruises is helping create a more consistent cruise tourism flow for Istanbul throughout the year. Traditionally, cruise operations in the region have been concentrated during warmer months, but the latest expansion reflects a broader industry trend towards increasing seasonal flexibility and maximising the use of major port infrastructure.

Galataport Istanbul’s location along the Bosphorus provides a key advantage for cruise operators. The port combines modern facilities with access to Istanbul’s historic attractions, cultural landmarks and international transport networks. Its position between Europe and Asia makes the city an attractive starting point for travellers seeking Mediterranean and regional cruise experiences.

The expansion of winter operations also supports Turkey’s ambitions to grow its cruise tourism sector. Increased homeport activity can generate wider economic benefits by encouraging longer visitor stays, supporting local businesses and strengthening connections between cruise passengers and destinations across the country.

Galataport Istanbul began developing its winter cruise operations in 2024, when the port introduced its first winter season programme. That initial period featured 25 voyages and welcomed around 55,000 passengers, demonstrating the potential for year-round cruising from Istanbul.

The growth of winter itineraries follows Aroya Cruises’ continued investment in Istanbul as a homeport destination. The cruise operator began its second homeporting season at Galataport Istanbul in June 2026, further increasing the city’s importance within its regional network.

The current seasonal programme includes 15 cruises departing from Istanbul and operating until September 12, 2026. These voyages feature seven-night itineraries that explore destinations across Turkey while also including international stops in Greece and Egypt.

The addition of winter routes creates new opportunities for travellers who prefer exploring Mediterranean destinations outside the peak summer period. Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds and increased availability of cultural experiences could make winter cruising from Istanbul an attractive option for international visitors.
