London Gatwick Airport officially recognized Nigerian carrier Air Peace’s debut flight to London, which arrived on March 30th. Although this acknowledgment came later than some might have expected, Gatwick Airport seized the moment to publicize Air Peace’s new direct route, promoting it as an excellent option for passengers planning trips from London to Lagos.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, responded to Gatwick’s welcome with mixed feelings. While he appreciated the recognition, he noted that it had come later than anticipated. Despite this, Keyamo thanked Gatwick Airport on behalf of the Nigerian government, highlighting Air Peace’s role as a pivotal player in Nigeria’s aviation sector. He stressed the significance of the airline in connecting Nigeria with international destinations and how crucial this is for the country’s connectivity and economic growth.
Minister Keyamo also expressed a strong desire for ongoing cooperation between Air Peace and Gatwick Airport to ensure efficient and smooth operations. He emphasized the Nigerian government’s commitment to supporting its airlines, ensuring they can operate successfully on international stages. This support is part of a broader strategy to enhance Nigeria’s aviation industry’s global standing, which benefits both the country’s economy and its citizens by improving international access and fostering business and cultural exchanges.
