Gender inclusive tourism policy in Maharashtra

For empowering women in tourism, the Maharashtra cabinet has permitted application of ‘Aai’, which is the state’s gender encompassing tourism strategy.

Likewise, sanction has been given to commence women’s bike-taxi facilities at few tourist areas in
Maharashtra.

Officials said that this strategy will be applied with the help of the Directorate of Tourism (DoT)
and Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) in association with numerous systems of other divisions. In this regard, a women tourism policy cell would be formed.

A verdict was also created during the event of International Women’s Day. Each year from March 1 to
8, the resorts or units under MTDC will present a 50% lessening on virtual registration for all tourists who are women. An official said that for duration of 30 days in a year, 50% concession would be provided to women travelers for online reservation for all resorts under the corporation. Experiential tour packages would also be initiated for several groups of women travelers. Women self-help groups would be given stalls or space for selling handiworks, artefacts and processed food in MTDC resorts.
