OvertourismOvertourism is the new buzzword in the travel sector and has driven a global debate all across the top destinations. Harvard Extension School is thus launching a new course on Regional Planning, Sustainable Tourism and Geodesign to help professionals and students develop skills to manage tourism in the era of overtourism challenges.

Local citizens and destination planners would require to gather the vital data to manage the cultural as well as natural resources and also review on the various options available for sustainable and efficient infrastructure. Innovations in master planning systems would thus be important to ensure the local folks effectively with the governments and the industry decision-makers.

In the new course, it will introduce the basic principles of tourism master planning, enabling students to learn how communities, governments, business, and civil society can take a more inclusive and sustainable approach to planning tourism destinations worldwide. The students will also learn about the presentation of quantitative and qualitative economic, sociocultural, and environmental data. They will also determine the best management of vital natural and social resources, and to build scenarios that include the impacts of climate change, including approaches to mitigation and adaptation, over the next 20-30 years.

Interestingly, this course would be entirely online.
