Hilton’s ambitious expansion across Ghana, Egypt, Nigeria, Madagascar, and other African countries is set to drive significant economic growth. With plans to open over one hundred new hotels, Hilton’s investments will create thousands of jobs, stimulate local economies, and enhance the region’s hospitality and tourism sectors. This expansion represents a major opportunity for these markets, solidifying Hilton’s commitment to contributing to Africa’s development.
Hilton, a prominent name in global hospitality, is poised to expand its influence across Africa in the upcoming years. With plans to open more than 100 new hotels across the continent, the brand is positioning itself as a key player in the booming African hospitality sector. The company’s expansion will span various regions, including Ghana, Benin, Nigeria, Angola, and Madagascar, bringing Hilton’s world-renowned hospitality services to new markets and creating thousands of jobs for local communities. By 2025, Hilton aims to have more than 160 hotels operating in Africa, which will directly contribute to the growth of the tourism and hospitality sectors across the continent.
As part of its ambitious growth plans, Hilton has already made impressive strides with several key openings. Some of Hilton’s latest hotel openings include Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof, Hampton by Hilton Sandton Grayston, and DoubleTree by Hilton Addis Ababa Airport. These openings are only the beginning of Hilton’s plan to solidify its presence in Africa, and the company is already gearing up for the debut of new properties in countries like Ghana and Angola later this year.
One of the most notable announcements is the Hilton Accra Cantonments in Ghana, set to open later this year. This will be Hilton’s first property in Ghana, and it will bring a level of luxury and world-class service to the capital city, Accra. The hotel will feature 145 guest rooms and a host of amenities including an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby lounge, pool bar, a gym, a spa, and more than 900 square meters of event space, including a ballroom and several meeting rooms. This opening will not only strengthen Hilton’s presence in West Africa but will also contribute significantly to the country’s tourism industry and local job market.

Hilton is also venturing into Angola, one of the fastest-growing economies in sub-Saharan Africa. The company recently signed agreements to open three hotels in the country, two of which will be in Luanda, the capital city, under its flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand and the more affordable Hilton Garden Inn brand. The third hotel will be located in Cabinda, a province in Angola, under Hilton’s DoubleTree by Hilton brand. These new properties will serve both business and leisure travelers and significantly expand Hilton’s footprint in this emerging market.
The Hilton Luanda Hotel Godinho, slated to open in 2027, will feature 220 guest rooms and suites and offer unparalleled views of the ocean. The hotel will also boast over 1,000 square meters of event space, making it an ideal location for both business conferences and social events. Hilton Garden Inn Luanda Airport, scheduled to open in 2028, will cater to business travelers, offering 200 guest rooms, a fitness center, a rooftop bar, and several meeting spaces. With Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport located nearby, the hotel will be well-positioned to attract both international and local visitors.

In addition to its exciting hotel openings, Hilton’s expansion in Africa will provide substantial benefits to the local economies. Hilton has announced plans to create 18,000 new jobs as it grows its portfolio across the continent. This is a part of the company’s broader commitment to supporting local communities through job creation, skills development, and economic empowerment. Currently, Hilton is actively recruiting for 600 new hospitality positions in Africa, and the company expects to generate more employment opportunities as it opens new properties in the coming years.
Carlos Khneisser, chief development officer, Middle East & Africa, Hilton, said, “We are thrilled to announce several new hotel agreements which significantly expand our footprint in Africa, a continent brimming with potential and opportunity. Our development strategy underscores our commitment to supporting Africa’s hospitality sector as we partner with owners to grow our footprint, deliver exceptional stays for our customers and create jobs for local people. Africa offers incredible opportunity, from thriving business hubs to vibrant cultures, wildlife, and natural landscapes. We are excited to unveil a host of new destinations building on Hilton’s legacy of hospitality across Africa for over 65 years.”
Hilton’s expansion strategy also includes opening hotels in several other emerging markets across Africa. In Benin, Hilton is set to debut with Hilton Cotonou, a hotel that will cater to business travelers and international visitors. The hotel will feature 233 guest rooms and a range of facilities including a spa, an outdoor pool, and flexible meeting spaces. This project, scheduled for opening in 2028, will help enhance Benin’s ability to host international conferences and events, reinforcing the country’s position as a hub for business and tourism.
Hilton is making a comeback in Madagascar with two highly anticipated projects. One of the properties, Hilton Antananarivo, is slated to open in 2028 and will offer 170 guest rooms, a spacious ballroom, a variety of meeting facilities, and a fully equipped fitness center. The second property, Hilton Garden Inn Antananarivo, will open in 2027, and will appeal to both business and leisure visitors. This hotel will feature 120 guest rooms, a restaurant, and a fitness center, providing a perfect blend of comfort and convenience for those eager to explore the island’s rich culture and stunning landscapes.
Hilton’s growth is not limited to West and East Africa. The company is also focusing on expansion in North Africa and Southern Africa. In Egypt, Hilton plans to triple its portfolio, aiming to have more than 40 hotels operating in the country. Morocco is also a key focus, with Hilton set to double its presence there, particularly in the luxury sector.
In South Africa, Hilton recently celebrated the opening of Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof, marking the debut of the Canopy brand in the country. This property is located in the heart of Cape Town, close to iconic landmarks like Table Mountain and Camps Bay. The hotel offers 154 guest rooms that reflect the local culture, along with a signature restaurant led by renowned chef Bertus Basson. Additionally, Hilton has expanded its presence in Ethiopia with the opening of DoubleTree by Hilton Addis Ababa Airport and is planning to open more hotels across the country in the near future.
As Hilton continues to expand its footprint across Africa, it remains committed to providing an exceptional guest experience. All of Hilton’s new hotels will be part of the Hilton Honors program, Hilton’s award-winning loyalty program that boasts over 218 million members globally. This will ensure that travelers have access to exclusive benefits, including points for free stays, room upgrades, and special offers.
Hilton’s expansion across Ghana, Egypt, Nigeria, Madagascar, and more with over one hundred new hotels is set to drive economic growth and create thousands of jobs across Africa.
With its bold expansion strategy, Hilton is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Africa’s hospitality industry. The company’s commitment to offering high-quality accommodations, creating local employment, and supporting the growth of tourism in the region demonstrates Hilton’s long-term investment in Africa. As the hospitality industry in Africa continues to evolve, Hilton’s influence will undoubtedly grow, making the brand a cornerstone of African tourism and hospitality in the years to come.
