The third quarter of 2023 witnessed a robust rebound in air passenger numbers.

Industry-wide Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPKs) surged by 28.4% compared to the same period in 2022, resulting in an overall passenger traffic volume that trailed just 3.7% below the levels recorded in 2019.

Although the recovery in international air traffic made strides in Q3, reaching 90.3% of the 2019 benchmark, it was predominantly fueled by the resilience of domestic markets.

On a global scale, domestic air traffic experienced a noteworthy expansion of 24.7% year-on-year during the third quarter, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 7.4%. Key domestic markets, such as the US, China, India, and Brazil, surpassed their 2019 domestic RPK figures in Q3.

China particularly stood out, witnessing a twofold increase in domestic traffic compared to 2022 and a notable 17.4% rise over 2019 levels.

Overall, the outlook for 2024 remains optimistic, with a comprehensive recovery in air traffic projected across all regions.
