The recent Global Investment Summit (GIS) in Visakhapatnam has provided the tourism sector a boost, The Hindu quoted Minister for Tourism, Culture and Youth Advancement R.K. Roja as saying on Tuesday.
Ms. Roja stated during a review meeting with officials from the departments concerned that a record 123 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs. 21,941 crore were signed at the summit and that the implementation of these projects would create jobs for 41,412 youth across the State.
She stated that the tourism industry in the state was limping back to normal after Covid. She stated that the government was eager to build additional facilities around the state, and that 50 locations had been selected for the development of adventure and water sports. She also stated that steps were being taken to encourage and assist athletes and artists in the state.
She stated that for 40 of the planned projects, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) had been filed, and the Tourism Department had formed a special committee to provide full assistance and cooperation to the investors who had pledged to establish projects in the State.
The Minister also cut a cake to commemorate one year in office.
The review meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary, Tourism and Culture Rajat Bhargava; Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director K. Kanna Babu; Executive Directors Mal Reddy and Balram Reddy; Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Managing Director Harshwardhan; Commissioner, Youth Services Department Sarada Devi; Executive Director, Department of Culture R. Mallikarjun, and a slew of others.
