BJP’s Poriem MLA Deviya Rane has suggested that Goa needs to build up a safari park in one of the five wildlife sanctuaries for boosting locality tourism.

Rane opined that Haryana has the world’s largest park in the making, which is the Aravali Safari Park. Similar parks can also be made in Goa. It will encourage locality tourism along with creating employment opportunities for the local folks.

Rane added that the forest department needs to make sure that funds provided by the Center under various plans are utilized properly for the expansion of forests.

She said that Goa has five wildlife sanctuaries, but they don’t see localites visiting them owing to dearth of amenities. Goa has not developed its wildlife sanctuaries like the other states. Rane also urged for transparency on villages that have been listed as eco-sensitive regions as part of a newly issued draft announcement.

Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa opined that annoyance of people from the ST community in his ward, who grow their crops in forested areas, should be stopped. Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas urged the state government where cutting down of trees is concerned, officials need to correspond their decisions after consent for the doings is received.

Michael Lobo, Calangute MLA, wanted to know if trees which were cut down for projects were restored in other areas, and if all records are in place.
