On December 12th, 2023, Azamara Cruises and its ship, Azamara Onward, were officially welcomed to Port Everglades for the first time, marking its new South Florida winter homeport. The traditional dockside plaque-and-key ceremony celebrated the occasion. Positioned as a global gateway, Port Everglades in greater Fort Lauderdale is an ideal match for the luxury small-ship cruise line, offering voyages to various destinations worldwide.
Jonathan Daniels, the CEO and Port Director of Port Everglades, expressed his honor in extending highly personalized services to Azamara Cruises and their guests. He emphasized the port’s welcoming and convenient atmosphere, expressing confidence that cruise guests will thoroughly enjoy the offerings of both the port and Greater Fort Lauderdale.
Azamara Onward’s inaugural sailings from the port this cruise season include a 12-night and 14-night journey to the Eastern Caribbean, as well as a 13-night Central America Tapestry Voyage, marking the beginning of the 155-night Around the World Voyage set to depart on January 5, 2024. Like its sister ships, the newest addition to Azamara Cruises’ fleet is designed to accommodate up to 700 guests, navigating oceans, waterways, and intimate locations.
Michael Pawlus, Head of Itinerary Planning at Azamara, expressed gratitude to CEO Jonathan Daniels and the Port Everglades team for the warm welcome extended to Azamara Onward during its maiden call in Fort Lauderdale. Pawlus highlighted the excitement of having a ship dock close to the company’s South Florida headquarters. In a few weeks, Azamara Onward will embark on its first-ever World Cruise from Port Everglades, spanning over 40 countries across the globe.
