Jammu and Kashmir’s “Valley of Flowers,” Gulmarg, is celebrating a rise in tourism. Nearly 3 million people have traveled there in the previous 2.5 years. More than a million people have already admired its splendor this year alone.

Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, announced that 1.27 crore tourists have visited the area in the first seven months of 2023.

According to KNO, who cited an official, Gulmarg has seen a considerable increase in tourist arrivals since the Covid-19 crisis was eased, with the majority of these trips taking place within the country.

There were slightly more than 98,000 arrivals in 2020. However, during the previous two years, this well-known ski resort has seen a significant increase in tourists, with over 31 lakh visits being made between January 2021 and July of the current year. Locals, foreigners, and tourists from the domestic circuit are all included in this figure.

Over 2.15 lakh tourists visited Gulmarg in July, setting a record high for the current year. In contrast, there were only 92,000 arrivals in the month of February.

According to the official data for the current year, more than 7.6 lakh domestic tourists, more than 2.5 lakh locals, and 5,500 overseas tourists have all visited Gulmarg.

6,18,076 tourists arrived overall in 2021, of whom more than 3.6 lakh came from the domestic market and more than 2.5 lakh were recorded as residents. The year also saw 16 overseas tourist arrivals.

In 2022, this popular tourist destination saw over 15 lakh tourists, of whom over 10 lakh were from within the country, 4.8 lakh were citizens, and more than 3,900 were foreigners.

The Lieutenant Governor announced last week that they plan to beat the 1.88 crore tourist arrivals from the previous year. He emphasized that 1.27 crore tourists had been recorded in the first seven months of 2023, and that 2.25 crore are expected to be recorded this year.
