Haifa Port in Israel has chosen Bermello, Ajamil & Partners (BA) to design the country’s first purpose-built cruise terminal.

Known as one of the most renowned cruise terminal designers worldwide, BA has successfully executed homeport cruise terminal projects on six continents, including major terminals in cities like Miami, Seattle, San Francisco, Singapore, New York, Galveston, and Mauritius.

After the pandemic, Haifa Port has rapidly emerged as an exciting and fast-growing cruise destination. Previously attracting a relatively modest number of passengers, it has now experienced a surge in popularity, welcoming approximately 380,000 Israeli passengers and 250,000 tourists who either visit the port or embark on cruises.

This growth has attracted nearly 30 different cruise brands, with 10 of them choosing Haifa as their homeport.

The upcoming cruise terminal project marks the first major development for Haifa Port since its privatization earlier this year.

Now under the ownership of India’s Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (70%) and Israel’s Gadot Group, the port sees cruises and tourism as crucial components of its future growth strategy.

The new terminal is expected to elevate Haifa to a significant cruise hub in the Mediterranean region.

The design of the terminal will be mindful of Israel’s history and culture, while also integrating seamlessly into Haifa’s planned waterfront development.

This commitment to preserving the essence of Israel’s heritage and ensuring sustainable expansion showcases the port’s dedication to harmonious growth. With BA’s expertise and the port’s vision, Haifa is poised to become a prominent player in the global cruise industry, attracting more tourists and further boosting the region’s economy.
