Hamburg tourism is reviving rapidly and expansively compared to other cities. This was unveiled on Tuesday in a press conference by Dr. Melanie Leonhard, the Senator for Economics and Michael Otremba, Managing Director of Hamburg Tourismus GmbH. The recent tourist report pinpointed14.7 million growth in overnight stays by tourists. This was an increase of 95 per cent over 2021. This was at par with the levels of pre-pandemic times in 2019 of 15.4 million overnight stays. For both the tourists as well as the urban society, this balance is a positive sign. Leonhard highlighted that they are very happy that guests are attracted to explore Hamburg as a destination and are coming here in large numbers once again even though unobstructed travel has only been possible again since last April.

Hamburg is recognized positively, particularly in Germany, and has the standing of being a special place that many longs to visit, said Otremba. Here, international overnight stays have risen in numbers and are reaching almost 80 per cent compared to 2019 with almost 3.1 million overnight stays, with majority of tourists coming from Denmark, followed by Switzerland with 305,600, Austria with around 263,600, the Netherlands with 212,809 and Britain with 204,000 stays overnight.

Hamburg Tourismus GmbH’s relaunch campaign probably played an important role in terms of positive figures. Also, the tourist industry has immensely profited from EUR 3.1 billion in coronavirus aid.
