The Environment Agency issued flood warning around Haverhill. This happened after heavy downpour in Cambridgeshire on August 25.

The agency also issued a yellow warning for impending thunderstorms after the recent heatwave. Due to heavy rainfall, the water levels of the rivers are on the rise.

There may be flash flooding in some pocket areas around the Haverhill. It is located on the county’s border with Suffolk.

Surface water flooding may create difficulty in driving particularly in the rush traffic hours.

The low lying roads and riverside areas around Haverhill, Clare and Sudbury are at most risk. These places include Sturner, Kedington, Steeple Bumpstead, Bridge Street, Long Melford and Cavendish.

The Environment Agency has urged caution saying that “flood water is dangerous” and asked people to not put themselves at risk.

However, they have said while river levels are currently reacting to the rainfall, these should ease later on in the day.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning covering a large part of Cambridgeshire with thunderstorms expected on today (August 25).

This warning covers mostly the central and eastern parts of the county such as Ely, Cambridgeshire, Wisbech and Hungtongdon. These places will likely meet with thunderstorms and heavy rain.
