Katja Hekkala is appointed by Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort as its new general manager.
She holds more than 20 years of experience in hospitality and travel industry. She has extensively worked for luxury hotels in Portugal, Madeira, Sweden and Norway. Being a highly accomplished professional Hekkala is known for her extensive sales and marketing skills. She is well positioned to head the team at Anantara’s first European property.
She is a Swedish national and studied at Schiller International University in Strasbourg and London from 1989-1992 . Here she bagged a degree in hotel management.
Hekkala completed an executive leadership e-course with Cornell University in the year 2005.
She has worked across different departments including front office, sales and marketing and started her career at Starwood Hotels & Resorts. She worked with Sheraton Hotel Oslo in Norway before starting at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel in Sweden.
She was also placed in several destinations like the Morocco, Mauritius, Tunisia, Ireland, Paris and the French Riveria.
The Pestana Group in 1998 invited Hekkala to work in Madeira, she started here as the front office manager before taking the role of International manager at Pestana Hotels and Resorts Madeira.
