The onset of warmer weather, spring break, and the anticipation of the RBC Heritage has ushered in the travel season on Hilton Head Island. The convenience of the island’s airport has come under the spotlight, as noted in discussions with the airport’s director by WTOC. The director highlighted the season’s impact on the airport, noting an increase in nonstop flights by seasonal airlines to destinations including New York, Washington D.C., and Newark, among others.

This season, airlines such as United, American, and Delta are set to increase their presence at the island’s airport. With the rise in travel activity, the airport is expected to accommodate additional staff, TSA officers, and vehicles in its parking area. The director of Beaufort County Airports, Jon Rembold, praised the airport’s convenience for both visitors and island residents. He shared an anecdote about the ease with which residents can drop off loved ones and return home in time to enjoy their morning coffee, commending the comfort and reliability of the regional jets and the airport’s commendable track record.

Furthermore, the upcoming RBC Heritage is anticipated to attract an even larger number of travelers to the airport. Charlie Clark, the Vice President of Communications for the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, observed a significant increase in the occupancy of the island’s numerous hotel rooms and vacation rentals, compared to previous years. Additionally, there has been a notable trend of visitors making reservations well in advance, with about a 5% increase in island stays and higher expenditure reported this year.

Clark also pointed out an uptick in the average daily rate paid by visitors, indicating a robust economic and tourism industry on the island. The RBC Heritage is identified as a key attraction drawing visitors to Hilton Head Island. WTOC has announced plans to provide extensive coverage of the tournament both on air and online.
