Himalaya Airlines has achieved the distinction of being the first and only operator in the country to be registered with the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) program. This significant accomplishment was marked by the receipt of the IOSA certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on December 28, 2023, which remains valid until March 3, 2025.

The certificate reads “Himalaya Airlines Pvt Ltd has been successfully registered as an IOSA Operator under the IATA Operational Safety Audit program (IOSA), in accordance with the provisions of the IOSA Program Manual.”

The IOSA certification awarded to Himalaya Airlines verifies its compliance with the utmost safety standards and industry best practices, ensuring a safe and dependable journey for its passengers. By being the only airline in Nepal to secure IOSA certification, Himalaya Airlines not only achieves international acclaim for its dedication to safety but also benefits from the thorough IOSA audit. This audit process scrutinizes and improves different facets of Himalaya Airlines’ (H9) operations, contributing to enhanced efficiency, risk management, and performance overall, according to a press release from the company.

Vijay Shrestha, Vice President of Himalaya Airlines, expressed, “This milestone signifies a positive shift in Nepal’s aviation industry. We are proud to lead by example, setting new benchmarks for safety and operational excellency. This certification not only validates our ongoing efforts to maintain the highest safety standards but also positions us as a trusted airline in the global aviation community. We look forward to continuing to raise the bar in the years to come.”

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) developed the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) as a standardized and globally acknowledged audit program for airlines. Its main aim is to improve operational safety and establish a uniform safety benchmark across the aviation sector by evaluating an airline’s operational management and control systems.

The audit encompasses a thorough review of the airline’s policies, procedures, and operational practices, including both documentation inspection and physical on-site evaluations. Airlines that successfully navigate the audit process and rectify any issues identified receive IOSA certification. Therefore, IOSA registration is regarded as an indicator of safety excellence and serves as a mandatory requirement for becoming an IATA member.
