The transformation of the former Lloyds Bank building located on Corsham High Street into a boutique hotel, complete with a restaurant and bar, has been set in motion following the approval of the planning application by Wiltshire Council. This application, which was submitted in December 2022, seeks to repurpose the Grade II listed structure, a building with origins dating back to the early to mid-18th century and which served as a Lloyds Bank branch for more than a century until its closure in 2016.

The application’s heritage statement highlighted the building’s rich architectural history and its evolution through subtle adaptations over the years to accommodate various uses, underscoring its unique character. The Beckford Group is set to manage the upcoming hotel, which will also feature a wine merchant on the ground floor as part of its offerings.

Plans for the hotel detail the preservation of the historic central staircase and the adaptation of new hotel rooms on the upper floors to reflect the building’s historic layouts. Additionally, a proposal for a single-storey kitchen extension and additional storage spaces at the rear of the south-west wing has been included. The project is heralded for its potential to introduce high-quality visitor accommodation to Corsham, alongside offering employment and training opportunities to the local community.
