Passenger traffic at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has shown significant improvement, reaching 80% of the levels seen before the onset of the pandemic. This resurgence aligns with the predictions made by the Airport Authority Hong Kong. Specifically, during the busy Christmas holiday travel period, the airport efficiently managed an influx of more than 160,000 passengers daily on both the 22nd and 23rd of December. Notably, the 23rd of December marked a milestone with a record-breaking 164,000 passengers handled in a single day since the pandemic began.
Moreover, flight activities have steadily increased, surpassing 80% of the pre-pandemic levels from the middle of December. The 23rd of December recorded an unprecedented post-pandemic high of 1,034 flight movements in a single day, showcasing the escalating pace of recovery.
Projections indicate that the passenger traffic at HKIA will likely make a complete rebound to pre-pandemic levels by the conclusion of 2024. This optimistic outlook underscores the resilience and gradual restoration of air travel in the wake of the challenges posed by the pandemic.
