Hollywood sign turns 100: LA declares hollywood sign dayon october 31, 2023

To commemorate the renowned Hollywood Sign’s 100th birthday, Councilmember Nithya Raman and the Los Angeles City Council announced October 31, 2023, as “Hollywood Sign Day” in a historic proclamation. The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board and the Hollywood Sign Trust both attended a presentation and cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate the milestone.

“The Hollywood Sign is one of the crown jewels of Council District 4 and one of the top three tourist attractions in the City of Los Angeles,” said Councilmember Raman. As we celebrate its 100th anniversary, we also reaffirm our commitment to funding long-term initiatives to preserve the parks, neighborhoods, and local communities.”

“We are honored that the City of Los Angeles is commemorating October 31 as ‘Hollywood Sign Day’ in our centennial year,” said Jeff Zarrinnam, Chair of the Hollywood Sign Trust, in expressing his gratitude. This year has been amazing for the Hollywood Sign, filled with firsts never seen before, accolades, and global celebrations.”

Adam Burke, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, expressed excitement on behalf of the official non-profit organization for promoting tourism in the City of Angels, saying, “The Hollywood Sign provides a red-carpet welcome for visitors from around the globe, with tourism playing an indispensable role for all Angelenos.”

Highlighting the financial impact, Burke stated, “In 2022, visitors to LA generated $34.5 billion in total sales to local businesses and supported more than 528,000 tourism-related careers –including $1.36 billion in business sales and over 5,600 jobs in Council District 4.”

The Hollywood Sign is recognized as the most recognizable landmark in Los Angeles and a global symbol of the entertainment industry. This festival honors the sign’s cultural significance as well as its economic contribution to the city.
