Hong Kong International Airport November 2023 Traffic achieves new heights

The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has released the latest air traffic data for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) in November 2023. During this month, Hong Kong International Airport successfully managed 3.8 million passengers and handled 27,855 flight movements, marking substantial year-on-year increases of 2.6 times and a twofold growth, respectively. Additionally, the cargo throughput maintained its impressive growth trajectory, with HKIA recording a remarkable 17.8% overall surge to 417,000 tonnes, accompanied by a significant 31.8% boost in exports compared to the same period last year. Notably, cargo traffic to and from vital trading regions such as North America, the Middle East, and Europe experienced the most substantial expansion during this period.

All segments of passenger traffic exhibited robust growth in comparison to November 2022, reflecting the continued recovery of passenger traffic. Notably, passenger traffic to and from Southeast Asia, Mainland China, and Japan recorded the most substantial increases.

For the first 11 months of the year, the passenger volume surged to an impressive 35 million passengers, marking an approximately eight-fold increase compared to the same period in 2022, while flight movements doubled to reach 246,240. Cargo volume experienced a slight uptick of 1.7%, totaling 3.9 million tonnes year-on-year.

On a 12-month rolling basis, passenger volume at HKIA exhibited a remarkable eight-fold year-on-year increase, reaching 36.8 million passengers, while flight movements soared by an impressive 90.6% to 262,015. However, cargo throughput showed a minor decline of 1.4%, amounting to 4.3 million tonnes.

As the holiday season unfolds, HKIA’s terminal has been adorned with festive Christmas decorations. A series of exciting activities and performances are scheduled from December 21 to 26 to create a joyous atmosphere for travelers. Santa Claus himself will make appearances, greet passengers, pose for photos, and distribute delightful Christmas souvenirs.
