According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), approximately 750,000 visitors arrived in Hong Kong during the first four days of the Chinese New Year holiday (February 10–13), with around 650,000 coming from the Mainland. This represents an increase from the 640,000 Mainland arrivals during the same period in 2018.
Leading up to the festival, the HKTB promoted various celebrations throughout the city under different themes, providing festive information on a centralized webpage. This included highlights such as the HKTB’s “International Chinese New Year Night Parade,” the 2024 Lunar New Year Fireworks Display, and the Chinese New Year Raceday, held on the first three days of the Chinese New Year. These events drew visitors to partake in the festive atmosphere of the city.
Moreover, the HKTB has announced a provisional visitor arrival count of 3.83 million for January 2024, equivalent to 72% of the figures for the same period in 2018. In the first half of February (1–13 February), there were approximately 2 million visitors, with the daily average representing 83% of the entire-month average in February 2018, indicating a steady recovery momentum.
Looking ahead, the HKTB intends to sustain this positive trend by continuing to promote Hong Kong’s major events and enticing tourism experiences in both the Mainland and overseas markets to attract more visitors to the city.
