How Delta airline taking you to watch total solar eclipse?

For those eager to witness a total solar eclipse from an aerial perspective, Delta is set to provide an unforgettable experience this April.

In a unique offering, the airline has scheduled a special journey from Austin to Detroit on April 8, 2024, designed with eclipse enthusiasts in mind. This flight aims to maximize the duration spent in the eclipse’s path of totality.

Scheduled as Delta flight 1218, this exclusive trip will be aboard an A220-300 aircraft, chosen for its oversized windows to enhance the eclipse viewing experience. Departing from Austin at 12:15 p.m. CT and arriving in Detroit at 4:20 p.m. ET, the timing is meticulously planned to optimize viewing of the eclipse at its most spectacular moment.

Eric Beck, Managing Director of Domestic Network Planning, highlighted the collaborative effort behind this flight, stating, “The dedication and teamwork at Delta have made it possible to curate an experience that brings the awe of viewing a total solar eclipse from the skies to our passengers. The attention to detail, from the aircraft selection to the precise timing and onboard and gate experiences, showcases our commitment to creating memorable moments.”

Beyond this unique flight, Delta is offering prime eclipse viewing on five additional flights on April 8, reminding passengers to bring their eclipse glasses:

• DL 5699 from Detroit to White Plains at 2:59 pm EST on an ERJ-175
• DL 924 from Los Angeles to Dallas/Fort Worth at 8:40 am PST on an A320
• DL 2869 from Los Angeles to San Antonio at 9:00 am PST on an A319
• DL 1001 from Salt Lake City to San Antonio at 10:08 am MST on an A220-300
• DL 1683 from Salt Lake City to Austin at 9:55 am MST on an A320

Delta also offers flights to several destinations within the eclipse’s path of totality for those preferring to observe from the ground, including Austin, San Antonio, and Little Rock.

Warren Weston, Delta Air Lines’ Lead Meteorologist, emphasized the significance of the April 8 eclipse, noting, “This is the last total solar eclipse visible over North America until 2044, offering a duration and path width significantly greater than the 2017 eclipse, making it a truly extraordinary event.”
