International Tourism Jumps 23.6%

International tourism delivered one of Fortaleza’s strongest results during the first half of 2026.

The city welcomed 54,609 international tourists between January and June. This represented a 23.6% increase in foreign visitor volume compared with the same period in 2025.

The rise highlights the growing international reach of Fortaleza as the city celebrates its tricentennial year.

International Flights Rise 18% as Connectivity Expands

Growing foreign tourism was accompanied by stronger international air activity.

Fortaleza received 1,504 international flights during the first six months of 2026. This was an 18% increase compared with 2025.

The rise in flights gives travellers more opportunities to reach the Ceará capital while supporting the city’s ability to attract visitors from overseas markets.

Tourism Generates R$14.5 Billion Economic Impact

Tourism is also making a major contribution to Fortaleza’s economy.

Domestic and international visitors spent R$10.5 billion in the city during the first half of the year. According to the official data, this generated a total economic impact of R$14.5 billion.

The benefits extended across accommodation, bars and restaurants, transportation, events and leisure, as well as other parts of the local economy.

Tourism Supports More Than 359,000 Jobs

The visitor economy supported 359,373 formal and informal jobs.

This shows how tourism activity reaches beyond hotels and attractions. Visitor spending also supports transport services, restaurants, events, leisure businesses and other activities connected to the tourism economy.

Travellers Stay Longer and Spend More

Visitors are also spending more time in Fortaleza.

The average stay increased from 7.4 days in 2025 to eight days in 2026. Average individual expenditure during a visit reached R$4,688.53.

Longer stays give travellers more time to experience the city while extending tourism spending across local businesses.

Fortaleza Marks 300 Years With Stronger Tourism Demand

Fortaleza’s tricentennial year is therefore arriving alongside clear tourism momentum. More than 2.23 million visitors, rising international arrivals, stronger flight activity, longer stays and billions of reais in spending show the scale of the city’s visitor economy.

The first-half figures indicate that international tourism is becoming an increasingly important part of Fortaleza’s growth while domestic travel continues to provide a large visitor base.
