At the beginning of the year, Iberia claimed the title of the world’s most punctual airline, as determined by the rankings of the global consultancy firm Cirium. During January, the airline achieved an on-time arrival rate of 87.3 percent for its 14,152 flights. This performance secured Iberia’s leading position in the punctuality rankings among international carriers. To be considered for this ranking, airlines must be within the top 10 percent in terms of Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs) globally and operate across a minimum of three regions.
Rafael Jiménez Hoyos, Iberia’s Production Director, said: “Starting the year as the most punctual airline in the world is a great satisfaction that highlights the work and effort that Iberia’s employees put in every day to ensure that the complex system that allows our planes to take off and land on time works.”
“This is a particularly remarkable milestone, considering that the airline faced operational difficulties in January as a result of the strike by the airline’s handling staff,” Cirium explained.
Following its ranking as the second most punctual airline in Europe and the fifth worldwide in 2023, Iberia’s current status underscores its commitment to punctuality and operational excellence.
