Icelandair finalized two significant codeshare agreements with Air Greenland and Atlantic Airways during the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik on October 17, 2024. These partnerships are set to enhance travel connectivity between Greenland, the Faroe Islands, North America, and Europe, all through Icelandair’s hub in Reykjavik, offering travelers the convenience of booking a single ticket for their journey.
The codeshare agreements are scheduled to go into effect by the first quarter of 2025 for Icelandair and Atlantic Airways, while the collaboration with Air Greenland is expected to be fully operational by mid-2025.
Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair:
„What we have in common is that we are all island nations that rely on efficient air transport to connect with the world and for the prosperity of our countries. By joining forces and formalizing our partnerships, we will further strengthen air connectivity in the West-Nordic region and in the Arctic, which is an important foundation for future development in this part of the world. We are also pleased to connect Greenland and the Faroe Islands to our extensive sales and distribution networks in North America, Europe and in other global markets, such as Asia, and thereby further promoting these great tourist destinations. The Arctic Circle has established itself as one of the most important forums in the world on the Arctic and by hosting its annual Assembly here, Iceland has become a center for discussion about the Arctic. It is therefore a pleasure to sign these agreements here today.“
