IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) has announced the signing of its inaugural management contract with Samty K.K. to launch voco Hiroshima by mid-2027.

Nestled within the urban development adjacent to Hiroshima Station, the forthcoming 301-room hotel will seamlessly blend contemporary design with the area’s rich historical legacy. Embracing the essence of the renowned Saigoku Kaido, an Edo Period highway, the hotel promises an immersive experience for visitors.

The hotel’s amenities will include an outdoor café perfect for enjoying take-out delicacies, a community meeting space, and a vibrant hub for bus commuters, along with provisions for temporary shelter during emergencies.

voco, introduced by IHG in 2018, boasts a global portfolio of 62 hotels, with an additional 74 slated for opening in the near future. Following the successful debut of voco Osaka in 2022, voco Hiroshima marks the brand’s maiden venture into the Chugoku and Shikoku regions, extending a warm welcome to guests from across Japan and beyond.

Hiroshima, renowned for its poignant symbolism of peace, beckons tourists with its diverse attractions, from scenic natural landscapes to a culinary tapestry enriched by the bounty of the Seto Inland Sea. Situated within strolling distance of the Atomic Bomb Dome, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the bustling heart of Hiroshima City, the hotel is poised to catalyze local tourism and business growth as a premium establishment catering to myriad preferences.

Occupying the historic grounds of the Saigoku Kaido, a prominent thoroughfare of the Edo era, the hotel’s design embodies a tribute to local heritage as part of the broader urban revitalization around Hiroshima Station’s south exit.

Furthermore, the hotel’s development plan, endorsed under the “Private Guidance Facilities Development Project,” encompasses community-centric spaces such as meeting venues, a bustling transit hub, and a designated temporary refuge for individuals facing displacement during crises.

Takahiro Yamamoto, Director of Development, IHG Hotels & Resorts Japan commented, “IHG Hotels & Resorts Japan is pleased to announce the opening of the new IHG Hotel in Hiroshima. We are honored to partner with Samty, one of Japan’s leading integrated real estate companies. We are grateful to Mr. Yasunobu Ogawa, President and CEO of Samty, and we hope that the construction of voco Hiroshima will contribute to the further development of the local tourism industry by promoting voco’s unique global brand power and the wonderful attractions of Hiroshima, together with Samty’s business goal of ‘making everyone’s dreams come true.’ We look forward to building a long-term partnership between Samty and IHG in the years to come.”

The term “voco” derives from Latin, meaning “to invite” or “to gather.” Positioned as an immersive brand experience, it embodies the ethos of “Come on in with a warm welcome,” “Me time,” and “voco life,” offering guests an “unexpected and special” sojourn akin to the comfort of home. From personalized welcome gestures reflecting the hotel’s locale and character to tranquil room sanctuaries away from the daily hustle, and lively social interactions within vibrant dining venues, voco promises a premium hospitality encounter characterized by natural, unassuming service that defies convention. IHG Hotels & Resorts redefines the notion of luxury, ensuring each stay transcends the ordinary.

With a robust presence in Japan, IHG presently manages 47 hotels across seven distinct brands: InterContinental, Kimpton, ANA Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, and voco. Furthermore, an additional eight properties are slated for unveiling by 2025, featuring three luxury brands—Regent, Six Senses, and the Vignette Collection—alongside Garner, a midscale conversion brand. IHG remains committed to expanding its footprint in Japan, driving forward its business development initiatives to broaden its portfolio and enhance guest experiences.
