In 2021, Burke County hits new record in tourism spending

In Burke County, North Carolina, tourism is quite busy and the US state released fresh data last week.


In 2021, domestic and international visitors to and within the County had spent around $121.27 million.

This was a rise of almost 46.9% from 2020.


An annual study, this data comes which has been commissioned by Visit North Carolina, an entity of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina.


Ed Phillips, CEO of the Burke County Tourism Development Authority, said that Burke County’s Tourism Economy is constantly growing in an exponential rate and its surpassing all of the counties that creates a boundary for Burke.

The public lands, parks and different attractions located outdoors make the county western North Carolina’s beautiful destination.

Travel related to business for industrial development and other corporate efforts play a crucial role in Burke County tourism as well.


For 2021, the tourism impact highlights cover:


• The travel industry employs over 800 people in Burke County in a direct manner


• By the tourism industry, the total payroll generated in Burke was $27.5 million


• In Burke, the state tax revenue generated a total of around $5.3 million through state sales and excise taxes, and taxes on personal and corporate income.

Roughly, in local taxes, $4.2 million were generated from sales and property tax revenue from travel-generated and travel-supported businesses.
