In Saudi Arabia, tourism revenues have almost tripled in the first quarter of this year. It reached almost $9.86 billion, as per the data of the state-run Saudi Press Agency.
Since the pandemic situation, the Saudi Kingdom has revived a lot, hosting almost 7.8 million tourists in the first quarter of 2023, according to the report of SPA. In 2023, this number shows a 64% rise in tourist numbers so far, compared to 2019, the pre-COVID record year.
The SPA reported that the major rise in the revenue related to tourism happened after the Tourism Ministry of Saudi initiated to improve the tourism and its influence behind growth of the national financial system, which agrees to the purposes of the National Tourism Development Strategy.
Also, the conservative Middle East kingdom expects to grow tourism as part of a wider initiations to decrease its oil dependency. Riyadh envisions the rising tourism to ultimately contribute 17% of the total GDP of the country by 2032.
The Saudi Tourism Minister in June, Ahmed Al-Khateeb, informed a forum regarding international investors that covid was no longer impacting tourism in the kingdom. He said that now pandemic is behind all of us and that they will grow faster this year, they’re very optimistic.
