In 2022, a huge record of 291.5 million tourists visited the New York state, the highest number of visitors in the history of this US state, as per a press release from the office of Gov. Kathy Hochul.

More than $78.6 billion in direct spending was generated by tourism and $123 in terms of total financial effect, the numbers signify a huge increase over 2021 and exceeds the preceding records set in 2019, before the pandemic, the release stated.

Tourism Economics released the data in a series of reports. Hochul said in the release that the pandemic recovery of New York has been one for the history books. For their state in terms of direct investment, by welcoming an extraordinary 291 million visitors and generating billions of revenues, they’re writing the next chapter in their success story. In the three years since COVID crushed tourism to a stop, they have made transformative investments to enhance businesses, help tourism and hospitality workers and created a stronger, more welcoming New York city.

From busy New York City to the breathtaking Adirondack Mountains, now visitors are agreeing what they’ve known for long that New York is the place to be.

Tourism continues to be a vital economic driver behind the economy of their state.
