In South Africa, tourism is on the rise

In the first half of 2023, the tourism industry of South Africa showed a powerful upturn with recording more than 4 million tourist arrivals, as per the recent information from Statistics South Africa.

This is a major rise from the 2, 3 million arrivals of tourists between last year January and June.


Between January and June 2023, the total number of arrivals of tourists to South Africa showed a considerable rise of 78.2% in the 2023 first half when compared to the same time last year.

Also, there has also been a considerable boost all over the regions during the same times.  Even though the present expansion shows revival signs they are still functioning at 80% of their capacity of pre-pandemic times. Between January and June, in 2019, South Africa greeted over 5 million tourists.


To the country, the Africa continues to attract the biggest share of tourist arrivals.

Between January and June 2023, a total of 3 083 583 tourists that came to South Africa had come from other countries in Africa.

When compared to the same time 2022, this is a 79.9% rise when South Africa greeted 1 714 501 visitors from this place.  


Africa arrivals by land grew by 81.6% as Africa air recorded a growth of 44.5% this year.
