In spite of setbacks, the tourism revenue of Turkey increased double

In 2021, the tourism revenue of Turkey increased by 103 per cent year-on-year and reached $24.48 billion in spite of hindrances, the Statistical Institute of the country confirmed on the same.

The tourism income of Turkey increased quite a lot in the fourth quarter of 2021, registering a 95 per cent rise to $7.63 billion, Xinhua news agency reported.

It mentioned that in 2021, personal expenditures constituted 19.68 billion dollars of income while package tour expenditures earned $4.8 billion.

The impacted tourism of Turkey got major setbacks due to the restrictions related to Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, particularly for about three months when Russia stopped all flights to Turkey due to the soaring daily cases of covid in the country.

The Russian market was considerably significant for the coastal regions of Turkey, especially for the Mediterranean province of Antalya.

Multiple massive wildfires in July and August 2021 that engulfed the famous tourism spots along Turkey’s Aegean and the Mediterranean coasts also exploited tourism revenues, compelling many travellers to cancel their plans.

The country was also fighting hard against the depreciation of the Turkish lira in 2021, which lost 44 per cent of its value to the dollar.

In the meantime, the vaccination efforts of Turkey against Covid-19 have been continuing at full pace, and more than 141 million vaccine doses have been administered to date.
