In the next decade, Indonesia to create 5 mln jobs in tourism

The recent Economic Impact report from the World Travel and Tourism Council shows that the travel and tourism sector of Indonesia is hoped to generate over five million new jobs in the next decade.


Also, the prediction of the WTTC shows that in the country’s economic recovery, tourism will be a driving force, after suffering for more than two years.


Indonesia’s travel and tourism sector, in the next 10 years, is hoped to get expanded at an average annual rate of 10%. It’s twice the rate of the economy in general, which is anticipated to grow by 5.1%.


The contribution of tourism to GDP of Indonesia will reach almost US$118.4 billion. It would inject into the economy an additional US$72.9 billion and will account for 5.7% of the total economy.


Also, predictions are divulged that the travel and tourism sector is hoped to create over 500,000 new job opportunities every year each in the next decade. If it does, in tourism, it would reach more than 16 million employees by 2032.


The sector’s contribution to GDP, by the end of 2022 is hoped to increase by 57.2%. It would reach US$45.5 billion or 3.6% of total economic GDP, though tourism employment is only expected to grow by 2.1%. %, and reach 11.2 million jobs.


Julia Simpson, WTTC President and CEO, said that the travel and tourism sector of Indonesia is experiencing a strong revival, with positive predictions for GDP and employment.
