In spite of a typically stormy summer closing main arterial routes and adding up to the fights of the businesses of the local region that depend a lot on tourism, the Coromandel region has started going against the grain with an autumnal renewal of visitors from abroad.

The greater visibility of international travelers reported by few operators of tourism shown in the statistics of retail spending, which act as a barometer of financial affluence.

The record based on electronic transactions produced by Marketview and published by Destination Hauraki Coromandel emphasizes the total number of visitors from foreign countries for March 2023 every day to the region averaging at 1635. This was up from 129 in last year, across 50,691 March visitors in general.

For February 2023, the total International day visitors were 48,496. It was a rise from 2022′s figures as well.
For March 2023, the total domestic day visitors were up 5 per cent. On the other hand, for February 2023, the total domestic day visitors dropped 22 per cent on February 2022.

From Destination Hauraki Coromandel, Lynette Dey, said that on the peninsula, majority of foreign visitors are putting up at a minimum of two nights, taking in the picturesque route of State Highway 25, and the attraction of varied towns where they can explore a taste of the real New Zealand.
