On December 19, 2025, the Embassy of India in Monrovia, Liberia, hosted the highly anticipated India-Liberia Tourism Partnership Seminar. This seminar focused on enhancing the tourism collaboration between India and Liberia, aiming to promote tourism to the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, both renowned for their rich cultural heritage, historic landmarks, and vibrant tourism sectors. The event gathered key stakeholders, including officials from Liberia’s National Tourism Authority, travel agents, and members of the Indian business community in Liberia.
As Liberia’s tourism sector gains momentum, this seminar serves as a stepping stone towards stronger bilateral ties, offering insights into India’s burgeoning tourism sector and opportunities for Liberians to explore India’s cultural treasures. The initiative is also part of a broader diplomatic mission, which has been fostering closer relationships between India and Liberia since the opening of the Indian mission in Monrovia in 2021.
The India-Liberia Tourism Partnership Seminar aimed to create a stronger foundation for future tourism exchanges between the two nations. This is the third seminar organized since the Indian Embassy’s mission began in Liberia, marking a significant milestone in the growing relationship between India and Liberia. Ambassador Shri Manoj Bihari Verma of India led the event, welcoming participants and sharing his experiences of Liberia’s diverse tourist attractions. Hon. Princess Eva Cooper, Director General of the Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA), served as the Chief Guest, highlighting Liberia’s rich tourism potential and the country’s growing appeal as an ecotourism and heritage destination.
The seminar’s primary focus was on showcasing the tourism highlights of the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Both states offer a stunning array of historical monuments, wildlife sanctuaries, local crafts, cuisine, and cultural festivals that provide a unique and immersive experience for travellers. Special presentations were made by Indian travel agents operating in Liberia, offering detailed insights into what makes these states an attractive travel destination for Liberian citizens.

The seminar highlighted how Liberia’s ecotourism potential could align with India’s growing interest in sustainable travel. Eco-conscious travellers from India, looking for pristine destinations to visit, would find Liberia’s natural wonders both captivating and enriching.
Ambassador Manoj Bihari Verma emphasized that the tourism partnership seminar was not just about promoting India’s tourism but also about enhancing people-to-people ties. Tourism, he noted, serves as a bridge between cultures, allowing countries to foster understanding and goodwill. The ambassador stressed that tourism cooperation between India and Liberia would open new opportunities for cultural exchange, education, and mutual growth.
One of the seminar’s main objectives was to introduce Liberians to India’s tourism offerings and the practical benefits of travelling to India, including streamlined visa processes via the e-visa system. The embassy has simplified travel procedures, allowing Liberians to experience the rich heritage, vibrant festivals, and diverse landscapes that India offers, from the beaches of Goa to the desert forts of Rajasthan.
The Indian Embassy also reviewed its key engagements in Liberia over the past year. Notable initiatives included cultural events, such as the International Day of Yoga, and youth outreach programs aimed at building capacity and promoting educational exchange. As of 2025, approximately 150 Liberians have travelled to India under various training programs and scholarships, deepening ties between the two nations.
The success of these programs, coupled with a 54% increase in bilateral trade in 2024-25 (totaling USD 396 million), underscores the growing importance of India-Liberia relations. Ambassador Verma’s address focused on how these initiatives pave the way for even more substantial collaborations in tourism, trade, and beyond.
The India-Liberia Tourism Partnership Seminar in Monrovia marks the beginning of what promises to be a fruitful relationship between two nations eager to learn from each other’s rich cultural and tourism assets. The seminar has provided a platform for discussion, networking, and the exploration of mutual interests, particularly in the realms of ecotourism, heritage tourism, and sustainable travel.
As Liberia’s tourism sector continues to develop, the country is poised to become a leading destination for eco-tourists and heritage seekers. Meanwhile, the Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan offer rich experiences for Liberians seeking a deep cultural connection. Through continued partnership and collaboration, both nations will undoubtedly see the benefits of tourism in fostering economic growth, cultural exchange, and friendship.
As India and Liberia continue to build on this partnership, the future looks bright for both nations, with tourism serving as a cornerstone for greater understanding and cooperation.
