India is set to transform the winter travel experience with bold new initiatives aimed at enhancing both rail safety and passenger comfort. As dense fog and colder months approach, the Izatnagar division has introduced cutting-edge GPS-based Fog Safe Devices across 250 trains, allowing for higher speeds even in low visibility conditions, ensuring safer, more efficient operations. Simultaneously, the Moradabad division is tackling growing passenger demand by adding extra sleeper coaches to major trains, easing congestion and providing greater comfort during peak travel periods. These comprehensive upgrades reflect India’s commitment to ensuring a seamless, secure, and comfortable travel experience for millions of passengers throughout the winter season.

As the winter season approaches, bringing with it the challenge of dense fog, the Izatnagar division of Indian Railways has made significant strides in enhancing safety measures to ensure that trains operate efficiently and securely in such conditions. With the primary goal of maintaining safety and smooth operations during periods of low visibility, the division has equipped 250 trains with advanced GPS-based Fog Safe Devices, allowing them to maintain high speeds even when fog severely impacts visibility.

This initiative is part of a larger effort to ensure the uninterrupted operation of trains, particularly during the harsh winter months. These safety measures are a reflection of the division’s commitment to safeguarding passengers and maintaining train schedules despite the challenging environmental factors. The GPS-based Fog Safe Devices work by continuously providing loco pilots with accurate and real-time information on upcoming signals, which boosts their confidence and enhances overall train control during foggy conditions.

In addition to the Fog Safe Devices, the Izatnagar division has taken other critical steps to enhance safety. Reflective markings have been installed on level crossing barriers, and luminous strips have been placed on key signal posts. These measures ensure that signals remain clearly visible to train drivers even in dense fog, which can significantly reduce visibility to dangerously low levels. These improvements are designed to ensure that the trains can continue their operations at high speeds, with the maximum permissible speed now raised to 75 km/h from the previous 60 km/h limit, representing a 25% improvement in speed.

The improvements in rail safety go beyond just the installation of new devices and markings. As part of the division’s ongoing commitment to safety, all loco pilots and their assistants have undergone special counseling and training on safe operations in winter and foggy weather conditions. This ensures that all personnel are well-prepared to navigate the challenges presented by the colder months. Furthermore, the new Fog Safe Devices are mandatory not only for passenger trains but also for freight trains, which further strengthens safety across the division’s operations.

While the Izatnagar division focuses on improving safety, the Moradabad division is equally committed to enhancing the overall passenger experience, particularly during the busy winter season. With passenger numbers expected to rise due to the holiday season, the Moradabad division has decided to add extra sleeper coaches to several major trains to address congestion and ease the pressure on existing services. This addition is designed to ensure that passengers have access to more seating, reducing waiting times and improving comfort during their travels.

The additional sleeper coaches will be attached to six key trains in the coming weeks. For instance, the 14207 Pratapgarh-Delhi Padmavat Express will receive extra coaches from 22nd to 28th November, while the 14208 Delhi-Pratapgarh Padmavat Express will have additional coaches from 25th November to 1st December. Similarly, the 14205 Ayodhya Cantt-Delhi Express and the 14206 Delhi-Ayodhya Cantt Express will see extra sleeper coaches from 24th to 30th November and from 23rd to 29th November, respectively. Additionally, the 22420 Anand Vihar Terminal-Ghazipur City Express will be equipped with an extra coach from 22nd to 27th November, and the 22419 will also see additional seating capacity from 23rd to 28th November.

These enhancements are part of a broader strategy to improve passenger comfort during peak travel periods. By adding extra coaches, the Moradabad division aims to address the growing demand for train services, especially during the festive season, when travel volumes are significantly higher. This initiative will help alleviate long waiting lists and ensure that passengers have more options for securing a seat, making their journeys more comfortable and less stressful.

The decision to add extra coaches to these trains is part of the railway administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance the travel experience for passengers, ensuring that they are well taken care of during their journey. By addressing issues of congestion and passenger comfort, the division is not only improving the immediate travel experience but also fostering greater customer satisfaction and trust in the Indian Railways system.

As the winter season progresses, and with it the challenges posed by dense fog and rising passenger demand, the enhancements in both safety measures and passenger comfort demonstrate Indian Railways’ dedication to providing efficient and reliable services to its passengers. Whether it’s through the installation of cutting-edge technology like the Fog Safe Devices or the addition of extra sleeper coaches to alleviate overcrowding, these initiatives represent a forward-thinking approach to addressing the diverse needs of passengers.

India is enhancing rail travel this winter by introducing advanced Fog Safe Devices for increased safety and adding extra sleeper coaches to ease congestion, ensuring a smoother, more comfortable experience for passengers.

In conclusion, the steps taken by the Izatnagar and Moradabad divisions are an important part of Indian Railways’ continuous efforts to improve safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort. As the railway network adapts to seasonal challenges and increasing demand, these changes reflect the commitment of Indian Railways to ensuring that passengers can travel safely and comfortably, no matter the weather conditions. With these enhancements, the division is poised to provide a more seamless and enjoyable travel experience for passengers throughout the winter season.
