In spite of almost a complete prohibition on international travel during the pandemic period, India issued more than 10 lakh medical visas to foreigners between 2019 and 2022, thereby proving that it is fast coming up as the medical tourism hub of the world.

Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh while addressing a Healthcare Leaders’ Summit said that India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become one of the most lucrative healthcare destinations of the world, with the latest technology tools arranged, across care delivery.

India roughly has 600 globally and nationally recognized hospitals providing first-rate treatment in a cost-effective way. The healthcare sector in India is likely to reach $50 billion by 2025, while the global medical tourism market is predictable to be valued at about $72 billion.

Singh said that the share of India, who is already the largest provider of generic drugs in the world, in medical tourism, is anticipated to be around 10 billion dollars by 2023.

He said that huge efforts are being given to create a strong life sciences ecosystem with the help of science and research, which will, in turn, decrease health differences and build a clear plan for the enduring successes of vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics.

The whole world understood India’s control during the Covid-19 pandemic, as it realized the rare deed of delivering more than 220 crore vaccinations via the fully digital platform of COWIN.
