The Krishnaveni Sangeetha Neerajanam, organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sangeet Natak Akademi, and the State Government of Andhra Pradesh, is set to take place in Vijayawada on the banks of the River Krishna during the auspicious month of Karthika from December 10th to 12th, 2023.

The Ministry of Tourism has been consistently working towards enhancing and diversifying the country’s tourism offerings by focusing on the development and promotion of niche tourism.

In its commitment to showcase tangible and intangible heritage, as well as lesser-known tourist attractions through festivals, the Krishnaveni Sangeeta Neeranjam musical festival aims to celebrate the rich heritage of classical music, reviving a focus on Harikatha and Namasankeerthana traditions.

Beyond highlighting classical musical traditions, the festival will feature a vibrant display and sale of regional cuisine, local handicrafts, and handlooms. The event also endeavors to promote the hidden gems of the region, including spiritual, heritage, and eco-tourism destinations.

Artisans specializing in Kalamkari painting, Kondapalli wooden toys, Banjara embroidery, and handloom weavers showcasing the rich handloom traditions of the region, including Mangalagiri sarees, Uppada sarees, and Pochampally sarees, will be participating in the event.

The much-anticipated festival will bring together renowned artists and witness active participation from students representing music colleges in Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. With over 21 prominent artists performing across four venues, the musical event will be held at Durga Gha, Banks of River Krishna, Tummalapalli Kalakshetram, and Kanak Durga Temple in Vijayawada. Simultaneously, the Handicraft and Handloom exhibition, along with the Food Festival, will take place at Punnami Ghat, Berhm Park, Vijayawada. The three-day festival will be open to the public, expecting a large turnout of students, scholars, artists, and practitioners.

To provide comprehensive information about the musical traditions, crafts, cuisine, and tourism attractions of the region, an extensive website has been developed. Additionally, the Festival aims to shed light on lesser-known destinations, such as the Veerabhadra Swamy Temple at Lepakshi, Gandikota Fort, Ruins of Amravati Stupa, and the four-storied Rock-cut Hindu temple at Undavalli.

In recent recognition, the ‘Garba of Gujarat’ has been inscribed in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Humanity by UNESCO under the provisions of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Earlier, Shantiniketan in West Bengal and Hoysala Temples in Karnataka have been inscribed in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
