Indian Airlines Achieve One Crore Forty Five Lakh Passengers in March 2025, Reflecting 8.79% Yearly Growth

In March 2025, Indian airlines collectively carried 1.45 crore passengers, reflecting an 8.79% increase compared to the same month in 2024, according to official data released on Saturday. In March 2024, Indian carriers had transported 1.33 crore passengers.

Last month, IndiGo transported 93.1 lakh passengers, commanding a 64% share of the market. On the other hand, the Air India Group, which includes the full-service Air India and the budget-friendly Air India Express, carried 38.8 lakh passengers, holding a 26.7% market share.

In March 2025, Akasa Air and SpiceJet reported significant passenger traffic, carrying 7.2 lakh and 4.8 lakh passengers, respectively. These figures allowed Akasa Air to capture 5 percent of the market share, while SpiceJet achieved a 3.3 percent share. Both airlines continue to expand their presence in the highly competitive Indian aviation market, with steady increases in their passenger numbers.

IndiGo, India’s leading airline, outperformed its competitors in March 2025 by achieving the highest on-time performance (OTP) in the industry at 88.1%. This remarkable performance set a new standard for operational efficiency in the Indian aviation sector, highlighting the airline’s commitment to punctuality and customer satisfaction.

Akasa Air also performed admirably, achieving an OTP of 86.9% in March 2025, securing the second position among major Indian carriers. This on-time performance reflects the airline’s ongoing focus on improving its operational capabilities and meeting passenger expectations, even as it builds its brand in the competitive landscape.

In comparison, the Air India Group and SpiceJet showed lower OTPs of 82% and 72.1%, respectively. While both airlines have made strides in their operations, they face ongoing challenges in enhancing their punctuality and service standards, areas where competitors like IndiGo and Akasa Air have shown strong performance.
