Indian visitors to Australia surpass pre-covid level

After Australia fully opening its borders for almost a year, India is the first country to break the pre-covid arrival numbers of the tourists. A senior Tourism Australia official mentioned that between July 2022 and June 2023, around 383,000 visitors from India had visited the country. This was up 3% from the figures of 2018-19.

Also, among the well-known markets in terms of incoming travellers, India secured the fourth position compared to its seventh position pre-covid, the country manager for India and the Gulf countries, Tourism Australia, Mr. Nishant Kashikar, recently explained the same in an interview.


Indians spent around A$2 billion, or almost Rs11,000 crore incidentally, during the year. This was up 16% over pre-covid levels.


He also mentioned that in 2019, for Australia, India was the seventh-largest market in regard to inbound tourism. It became the fourth-largest in the last year, after the US, New Zealand, and the UK. At that time, China had just opened. So, next year, it may increase however, they have witnessed a lot of attention from
India. Particularly in MICE sector, there are several queries as the country is fast coming up as a preferred destination, he added.


From India, other factors that are helping tourism growth include the growth and development of the Indian economy.
