Indiana state museum combines science and art in Eclipse celebration

Indianapolis is set to host a grand celebration of the Total Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8th, at 3:06 p.m., positioning itself as the ‘Eclipse Capital of the Midwest.’ The city anticipates the arrival of over 100,000 visitors to witness this spectacular event. To accommodate the significant interest from the press and ensure media personnel have access to prime viewing areas and eclipse-related activities throughout the city, it is mandatory for media representatives to secure a media credential.

Media with credentials will gain entry to a dedicated media center located at the JW Marriott hotel in downtown Indianapolis, adjacent to the Lunacy Festival at White River State Park, from Sunday, April 7th, to Monday, April 8th. This center will act as the hub for credential collection, offer wi-fi connectivity, light refreshments, and present opportunities for media to explore story ideas and arrange interviews with local space experts and municipal officials.

Applications for media credentials must be submitted by Wednesday, March 27.

Only media and photographers actively covering the event for timely dissemination through recognized media platforms are eligible for media credentials.

Accredited media will be granted access to eclipse events and prime viewing locations at various venues:

• At White River State Park’s Lunacy Festival, attendees can enjoy a free one-day event in the 250-acre downtown urban park, featuring panoramic views of the city skyline and the eclipse from the southwest. The festival will include more than 20 food trucks on the pedestrian bridge, live music, yoga and Tabata sessions, kayak rentals for eclipse viewing from the river, and designated media viewing areas.
• Newfields’ Total Eclipse of the Art offers a one-day celebration on the art museum’s 152-acre grounds, complete with live music, DJ sets, fire performers, food and drinks, and picnic opportunities.
• The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis’ Eclipse Extravaganza will host family-oriented activities during the eclipse weekend, including talks and demonstrations by NASA experts, giveaways, and more.
• Conner Prairie, an interactive history park affiliated with the Smithsonian, will offer a prime eclipse viewing experience with live music, dance performances that play with light and shadow, eclipse trivia, educational activities, and encounters with astronauts.
• The Indiana State Museum, situated within White River State Park, will provide a range of interactive experiences, including hands-on activities, live demonstrations, science experiments, and art projects. The IMAX theater will also offer an indoor live stream of the eclipse.
