IndiGo has planned ten domestic routes at the outset, ensuring connections between Navi Mumbai and key destinations such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, North Goa GOX, Jaipur, Nagpur, Cochin, and Mangalore. These routes have been selected to support both leisure and business travelers, providing convenient alternatives to Mumbai CSMIA. As traffic patterns become clearer and operational capacity increases, IndiGo aims to introduce more direct links, strengthening the airport’s network reach across India.

Akasa Air has also initiated its participation in the airport’s first-phase services. Daily flights to Delhi and Goa have been introduced to support high-demand corridors, while a five-weekly service to Kochi and a weekly operation to Ahmedabad have been added. These connections are expected to provide broader travel flexibility and reflect the airline’s strategy of integrating Navi Mumbai into its expanding domestic footprint.

Initial Operational Capacity and Phased Expansion Plans

The airport has begun operations with a systematic and phased approach. During the first month, the facility has been scheduled to run for twelve hours daily, from 8 am to 8 pm. Within this controlled window, an estimated 8 to 10 aircraft movements per hour have been planned. As operational systems stabilize, the airport is expected to scale up to 20 movements per hour and eventually to 30, providing capacity for heavier traffic flows. This phased model has been designed to support efficiency, minimize disruptions, and help airlines gradually adjust their schedules.

In its initial phase, the airport is capable of managing 20 million passengers annually. Long-term projections anticipate progressive upgrades, ultimately supporting up to 90 million passengers per year. This expanded capacity would place Navi Mumbai International Airport among the largest aviation hubs in India, reinforcing its role as a central component of national air infrastructure.

The ownership structure involves Mumbai International Airport Limited with a 74 percent stake under Adani Airport Holdings Limited, while CIDCO holds a 26 percent stake. This partnership has been framed to ensure coordinated planning, transparent funding, and stable long-term operations.

Emphasis has also been placed on sustainability, with renewable energy integration, responsible resource management, and modern terminal technologies being implemented to establish benchmarks for future Indian airports.
