IndiGo Leads the Way in Indian Aviation, Wins ‘Airline of the Year’ Award for 2024

IndiGo, the foremost airline in India, received the distinguished ‘Airline of the Year’ award at the 2024 Air Transport Awards, which were organized alongside the 2024 Air Transport Symposium, attracting the participation of key figures in the industry. The airline was honored for its significant role in the advancement of Indian aviation through its remarkable growth and for enabling numerous individuals to experience flying for the first time. The award was bestowed upon Pieter Elbers, IndiGo’s CEO, during a ceremony in Athens, Greece, this week.

Speaking at the occasion, Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo said, “I am honoured to accept the “Airline of the Year” award, which is a testament to our ambition of giving wings to the nation, by connecting India to the world and the world to India. Recently, IndiGo achieved a milestone by becoming the first Indian airline to conduct 2,000 flights daily and to serve 100 million passengers annually, positioning it among the top 10 airlines globally. With an ambitious order of nearly 1,000 aircraft, IndiGo plans to double its operations by the decade’s end and expand both its domestic and international routes.

The 2024 Air Transport Awards, conducted in collaboration with Hermes – Air Transport Organisation and ATN – Air Transport News, aim to honor the contributions of individuals, companies, and organizations to the global air transport sector. Award winners are chosen by Air Transport News readers and an international panel of aviation experts.
