Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi is set to enhance the passenger experience with the highly anticipated reopening of Terminal-2 on October 26. After a temporary closure in April 2025 for significant upgrades, the terminal has been transformed with cutting-edge technology, promising improved efficiency, greater passenger convenience, and heightened safety standards. Built four decades ago, Terminal-2 has been completely modernized, with an emphasis on streamlining operations and embracing the future of air travel.

With its reopening, Terminal-2 will host around 120 domestic flights operated by Air India and Indigo from the midnight of October 25-26. Efficient Self Baggage Drop System

One of the most notable advancements is the installation of the Self Baggage Drop (SBD) system. This system eliminates the long queues typically associated with baggage check-in, a common pain point for travelers. With the new system, passengers simply scan their boarding passes, attach baggage tags, and drop off their luggage at dedicated stations, all within a matter of minutes. This shift reduces wait times, making the check-in process faster and more efficient, ensuring a smoother start to the journey.

First-of-Its-Kind Autonomous Boarding Bridges

Terminal-2’s six new Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB) introduce autonomous docking technology for the first time in India. This system automates the alignment of the aircraft with the bridge, enhancing both safety and efficiency during boarding and disembarking. These advanced boarding bridges, imported from South Korea, feature adjustable cabins, swing doors, and specialized ramps designed to facilitate smooth and easy access for all passengers, including those with mobility impairments.
