The number of international tourists reached 7.44 million from January to August 2023 in Indonesia, and is anticipated to rise to 10 million to 11 million by the end of the year, according to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.

The government has upped the objective for international tourist visits to 8.5 million, or 1.1 million more than the target of 7.4 million established at the start of the year, according to “The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno,” which was streamed live on Monday.

He stated that Indonesia still has four months to meet the aim. He believes that by the end of 2023, the number of international tourist visits would have exceeded the objective by 15-20%.

“It could reach between 10 (million) and 11 million foreign tourist visits,” he said. He further added that foreign tourist arrivals have shown a strong increasing trend.

According to the ministry, international tourist visits totaled 1.13 million in August, a 68.92 percent increase over 670 thousand visitors in the same time in 2022.

The amount represented a 1.02 percent rise over July 2023, when the tally was 1.121 million.

According to the nation of origin, the majority of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in August were from Malaysia (15.4%), followed by Australia (11.4%), Singapore (9.3%), China (7.52%), and Timor Leste (5.68%).

“If we look at the tourists visiting in August, they were dominated by Malaysians,” he noted.

Uno believes that an increase in international tourist arrivals will help the population. He is optimistic that the year-end target of 8.5 million will be significantly exceeded
