International Civil Aviation Organization

During the briefing to the ICAO Council on March 21, 2024, global aviation leaders emphasized ICAO’s pivotal role in spearheading collaborative efforts essential for fostering a sustainable future centered on innovation and resilience.

The heads of Airports Council International (ACI), the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Associations (ICCAIA) provided a comprehensive analysis of the aviation industry’s resurgence post-pandemic and outlined strategic measures necessary to achieve a net-zero future.

The aviation industry has shown impressive resilience, as per ICAO’s forecasts, indicating that air traffic in 2024 is set to exceed levels seen before the pandemic. This growth underscores the critical importance of addressing sustainability concerns, particularly by intensifying the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) to meet the ambitious target set by governments for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
