Travel And Tour World had the pleasure of interviewing Ahmad Al-Hmoud, marketing director of the Jordan Tourism Board. The way Mr. Al-Hmoud expressed himself, one can understand what a remarkable person he is.
Travel And Tour World: What plans do you have for Jordan?
Ahmad Al-Hmoud: Last year was a great one for Jordan. As you can see, things were considerably different before the COVID-19 outbreak. But after a year of rehabilitation, Jordan made an incredible comeback and is now ranked among the top 10 nations in the world. But the problem concerning the war started at the end yesteryear in the Middle East, and it eventually affected Jordan. Jordan, however, has nothing to do with the Middle East and is a safe place to visit. Although the footfalls we have experienced are not comparable to those prior to COVID, they are still praiseworthy. Furthermore, we would like to highlight that Jordan continues to welcome more and more visitors and remains a safe destination.
Travel And Tour World: What steps are you taking to help Jordan adopt a sustainable strategy?
Ahmad Al-Hmoud: Jordan is focusing on climate change. Given the size of the population, the 5–6 million tourists we receive annually are not a significant number for Jordan. Rather than being a popular destination, it is a niche one. Our current focus is on local experiences, climate change education in the rural community through targeted projects, and sustainable tourism initiatives.
Travel And Tour World: Regarding the MICE sector, what is Jordan doing?
Ahmad Al-Hmoud: Jordan is participating in major exhibitions. Next, our convention center is about to open. Furthermore, we organize the World Economic Forum, inviting organizations to organize conferences.
Travel And Tour World: What does FITUR mean to you?
Ahmad Al-Hmoud: We have, in fact, been taking part in FITUR for the past twenty-five years. For us, this exhibition is really significant. Due to the significance of both the Latin American and Spanish markets. Therefore, it is crucial that we take part since it fosters networking and connections and allows us to share our work more effectively.
