Travel And Tour World had the good fortune to interview the vibrant Zalina Ahmad. She holds the position of Director at Tourism Malaysia’s Paris office. Since joining Tourism Malaysia in 2002, Zalina has taken on the role of fostering cultural exchanges and establishing strategic alliances and partnerships with a range of stakeholders, including airlines, travel and trade professionals, the media, and influencers.

Travel And Tour World: Give us a brief understanding of the Malaysian plans for tourism in 2024.

Zalina Ahmad: Sure, sure, you see. Tourism Malaysia is dedicated to boosting the appeal of Malaysia as a prime destination by disseminating information about its diverse attractions to potential visitors and keeping trade partners informed about the latest developments and future initiatives. The organization’s objective is to captivate the Italian audience and inspire them to select Malaysia as their forthcoming vacation spot. Specifically focusing on the European sector, which falls under my purview, our strategy encompasses promoting ecotourism, emphasizing the beauty and thrill of nature and adventure.

A key aspect of our approach is our commitment to preserving the environment, ensuring that the natural wonders that draw tourists to Malaysia are protected for future generations. Additionally, we are putting a significant emphasis on showcasing Malaysian cuisine, highlighting the rich gastronomic experiences that await tourists. By spotlighting Malaysia’s lush landscapes, commitment to sustainability, and culinary delights, we aim to position Malaysia not just as a travel destination but as a holistic experience that appeals to those seeking adventure, nature, and cultural immersion.

Travel And Tour World: What about ecotourism and the adventure industry in Malaysia? Can you walk us through that?

Zalina Ahmad: I’m thrilled to share that your adventure in Malaysia will be packed with incredible activities! Actually, Malaysia boasts four UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Among them, the brilliant Kinabalu Park and Gunung Mulu National Park stand out as the crown jewels, offering a glimpse into the country’s untouched natural beauty and biodiversity. These places are not just sites; they’re experiences that showcase the wonders of our planet, right here in Malaysia. Whether you’re a nature lover, an adventure seeker, or someone who appreciates the beauty of our world, these parks promise an unforgettable experience.

Travel And Tour World: What is your take on FITUR?

Zalina Ahmad: It’s absolutely thrilling! I’ve been completely overwhelmed by the warm welcome I’ve received here. It’s fantastic to connect with new people who are genuinely interested in learning more about Malaysia. They’re eager to taste Malaysian cuisine and are curious to discover more about our wildlife. Honestly, it makes me so happy.
