Iran has prospects to emerge as major tourism player

Among Islamic countries comprising Iran, tourism contributes significantly. However, for several reasons, this enormous prospect has not been thought of properly, said Ezzatollah Zarghami, the country’s the Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Minister, during the 16th Tehran International Tourism Exhibition.

Given the fact that tourism plays a key role in the current economic, cultural, and social development, Islamic countries need to recompense for this lagging behind by means of improving tourism.

By eliminating problems and presenting the proficiencies of Iran in the tourism turf correctly, the country could also deal with the fears and wrong images surrounding the country, said Zarghami.

A nonviolent and lovely country with four seasons, Iran easily finds its place among the first few countries globally with the best abilities in the areas of cultural inheritance, eco-tourism among other tourist attractions, said Zarghami.

The phobia surrounding Iran, however, has proved to be one the major deterrents for years, and such factors have led to the impediments in tourism development in Iran, said the minister.

Zarghami said that Iran has registered around 2.9 million foreign tourist entrances in the course of the last 11 months.

The Iranian Tourism Minister said that the degree of tourist entrances, with reference to corona virus constraints, is beyond some global estimates.

Zarghami stated that ‘Iranophobia’ along with a bad image of Iran in some media present major obstacles for luring foreign tourists.

He said that Iran has many relative benefits and amenities unlike other countries in the region.
