Thanos Hotels, a name synonymous with luxury and elegance in Paphos, is taking a leap into Nicosia’s historic heart. Known for its high-end establishments like Almyra, Annabelle, and Anassa in Paphos, the group is now spreading its wings to the Cypriot capital with its latest venture.

Set to open its doors in September 2024, the group’s first Nicosian property, Amyth, is currently under renovation. This boutique hotel is set to offer an intimate experience with its ten rooms and 1 or 2-bedroom suites. Perfectly positioned near the Archbishopric of Cyprus and the Byzantine Art Museum, Amyth is right across from the Mansion of Kornesios Hatzigeorgakis, which now serves as the Ethnological Museum of Cyprus.

Maintaining the building’s original allure, Amyth’s interiors are a reflection of architectural designs from the early 1990s. The group’s aim is to provide tourists with a unique stay option, enriching their beachside experiences in Paphos with a slice of Nicosia’s historic charm.

Thanos Michaelides, CEO of Thanos Hotels, shared with “K” magazine that the new venture is designed to spotlight Nicosia, particularly the areas within its ancient walls. This initiative is in line with the group’s commitment to offering authentic and high-quality experiences, which is a trademark of their existing properties.

In a humorous nod to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thanos, one could imagine him lounging in one of the luxurious suites at Amyth, perhaps contemplating the benefits of balancing historical preservation with modern luxury, rather than balancing the universe with a snap of his fingers.

Additionally, Thanos Hotels has taken the reins of the iconic Veregaria Hotel, which is set to reopen in spring 2026. This addition marks another historic jewel in the group’s expanding collection.

The entrance of Thanos Hotels into Nicosia is expected to significantly impact the city’s tourism landscape. By offering a blend of historical significance and contemporary comfort, Amyth is poised to attract both new and returning visitors to the capital, enhancing the city’s cultural and historical appeal.
