Just a week following the release of its 2023 financial reports, ITA Airways is progressing in its expansion plans by incorporating four new-generation Airbus aircraft into its fleet in a remarkable span of a single week. This latest addition increases its NewGen aircraft count to 44 within a total fleet of 87.

In the final week of March, the airline successfully expedited the service entry of these aircraft, making them operational shortly after their registration with the airline’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC). This achievement was realized through the dedicated efforts of ITA Airways staff in close cooperation with ENAC and other regulatory bodies involved in the approval process.

The newly integrated aircraft represent four distinct models: an A330-900 owned by ITA Airways, along with leased models including an A321neo, an A320neo, and an A220-100.

“Investment in our fleet, which has grown by more than 60% since our inception, lies at the heart of our
strategy. Today, announcing the entry into service of four new-generation Airbus aircraft in just one week is highly gratifying for us,” stated Francesco Presicce, Accountable Manager & Chief Technology Officer
of ITA Airways. “We have implemented Entry Into Service procedures to ensure the swift and efficient
integration of newly acquired aircraft, while adhering to safety and regulatory requirements. Achieving this milestone underscores our ambitious goals and our commitment to making strategic decisions. Witnessing the average age of our aircraft decrease from 12.5 to 8.4 years in just over two years, with over 50% being the latest generation Airbus models, highlights the success of our Entry Into Service activities. This reaffirms that we are on the right track. Our target for 2024 is to introduce 26 new aircraft into our fleet, reaching a total of 96 by year-end. Among these, 67% will belong to the new generation, a figure that surpasses twice the average of new-generation Airbus aircraft in the fleets of other European carriers, currently standing at 32%”.

Looking ahead to 2024, ITA Airways plans to add 26 new aircraft, aiming for a fleet of 96 by the end of the year, with 67% being new-generation models—more than double the average among other European carriers. The airline is also enhancing its next-generation fleet with advanced technology and onboard Wi-Fi to improve service quality and efficiency while aiming to significantly reduce its environmental footprint. By the end of its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, ITA Airways aspires to have around 90% of its fleet be environmentally friendly, targeting a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, with the ambition of becoming the most eco-friendly carrier in Europe.

This expansion and modernization effort reflects ITA Airways’ dedication to growth and sustainability for the benefit of the environment and community.
